PocketGuard applies transaction names based on a payee name received from your financial institution and then determines the transaction category using that name.
Wrong merchant:
Sometimes merchant names might be abbreviated or cryptic. In such cases, you should manually rename the transaction according to its payee name.
To find the payee name, just tap on the transaction - you'll see the payee name above its date:
You can change the transaction's merchant name by doing the following:
- Choose a transaction;
- Hit its merchant name;
- Enter a new merchant name;
- Choose whether to apply the change to this transaction only or to all transactions from this merchant. There is no option to undo this action, so please think carefully before applying.
Wrong Category:
Here in PocketGuard, a merchant is a king. A category is determined by it as well as many other things in the app. So, the main reason for an incorrect category is an incorrect merchant.
Please note that merchants go to certain categories automatically, even though you use them for other purposes. Like, PayPal. It always goes to Shopping, but if you tend to use it for business only, feel free to change its category to Business Services.
If the merchant is fine, you should do the following:
- Go to the Transactions tab;
- Choose a transaction you'd like to edit;
- Select its category;
- Choose the correct one from the list;
- Choose whether to apply the change to this transaction only or to all transactions from this merchant. There is no option to undo this action, so please think carefully before applying.
If the category or merchant was detected incorrectly for most of your transactions, please email us at support@pocketguard.com and provide examples and screenshots in order for us to fix the problem as soon as possible.
